De Bethune

Friday, October 5, 2018 11:26:32 AM America/Los_Angeles

DeBethune is a relatively new watch manufacturer located in La Chaux L'Auberson in the Swiss Jura close to the French border. De Bethune designs and build its watches in an atelier style, almost 'tailor made' watches of highest elegance and refinement, and with a focus on the best possible finish. Without doubt, they make some of the finest watches in the world today. They currently are making roughly 200 watches per year. Almost all of the movements they use are manufactured in-house. For so few watches, they already have an extremely impressive collection to offer. All of the De Bethune watches are made in precious metal cases made of Gold and Platinum, or extremely rare metals like Zirconium and have their characteristic ogival lugs. An ogival  arch is a pointed, "Gothic" arch, drawn with compasses. The dials are guilloched by hand. The movements are also entirely hand assembled. De Bethune DB28

We are featuring a particularly beautiful example of the De Bethune collection, the DB28 Limited edition (# 9 of 50) Revolving 3D Spherical Moon, Tourbillon Zirconium DB28TIS8NLE, in a Titanium and Zirconium round shaped case measuring 42.5mm diameter. It has a fixed Titanium bezel, with Zirconiumlugs. The lugs are spring loaded making the watch extremely comfortable on the wrist. It has a Mechanical movement, with a Power Reserve up to ± 144 hours.  It has a spectacular Grey colored Skeleton dial with Titanium minute and hour hands.

Completing the beautiful dial is a Revolving 3D SphericalMoon phase at 6 o'clock.  The crown is placed at the top of the dial in the 12 o’clock position rather than the side 3 o’clock. It has a scratch resistant Sapphire crystal and display Case back, with power reserve indicator on the back of the watch. A perfect Crocodile black Leather strap with Tang buckle completes the watch.

 De Bethune Case Back

It is Water Resistant to 20 meters / 66 feet.  The Case back is inscribed & numbered, and the Movement signed & concealed.

The Movement is a masterpiece of complicated engineering. It is the De Bethune Calibre DB2115 with 293 parts, and 36 jewels moving in concert at 28,800 VPH. It has a self-regulating twin barrel, silicon & white gold balance. The balance spring has a flat terminal curve, and it has a spherical moon phase indicator and a silicone escape wheel. Limited Edition of 50pieces...

This fine timepiece, which retailed in De Bethune authorized boutiques and retailers for $105,000, is in perfect condition, complete with original box and papers and available from ClassWatches for exactly half that price - $52,500.

 D Bethune DB28 Complete

This is a marvelous opportunity to own an extremely Limited Edition watch of the highest quality and complication. To buy this watch or for more information contact Mauricio by voice or text at +1(310) 433-9293 or email us at info@classwatches.com

IWC at www.classwatches.com

Thursday, September 29, 2016 1:10:23 PM America/Los_Angeles

IWC at www.Classwatches.com

With its passion for innovation and technical inventiveness, IWC Schaffhausen has established an excellent international reputation. Since 1868, this Swiss watch manufacturer has been creating masterpieces of haute horlogerie, (exceptional watchmaking), that combine precision engineering with exclusive design.

www.Classwatches.com and our eBay site, www.eBay.com/usr/classwatches always have a good selection of IWC watches, both new and collector or estate owned.

History

IWC, a Swiss company based in the German speaking east of Switzerland was actually founded by an American.

In 1868, an American engineer and watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones (1841–1916) [5] who had been a director of E. Howard & Co., in Boston, then America's leading watchmaking company, founded the International Watch Company with the intention of combining the craftsmanship of the Swiss with the modern engineering technology from the U.S. to manufacture movements and watch parts for the American market. Together, they laid the foundations for the only watch manufacturer in north-eastern Switzerland- The International Watch Company in Schaffhausen.

Current ownership

In July 2000, IWC was acquired by Richemont, a Zug-based luxury goods group, for over $3 billion. Richemont is the holding company of some of the world’s best known watch brands and the synergy created by this is beneficial for all of the brands it owns, as they are comfortable allowing their brands to be managed as independent entities, yet able to take advantage of the economies of scale that come from such concentrated purchasing power. IWC was guaranteed that it would continue to be managed by its executives and that group runs the company today.

Technology

Movements in the bulk of IWC's range of watches and chronographs (including the Portuguese Chronograph) use movements from Swatch-owned ETA. Significant modifications are made to the completed ETA 2892 by IWC at the manufacture to create the Caliber 30110, as is the case with Calibers 79230/79320/79350, which are modified ETA/Valjoux 7750 movements.

Movements not based on ETA movements include the Caliber 5000 and the Caliber 8000, which use the Pellaton winding system, and the pocket watch movements used in the Portuguese F.A. Jones and other IWC pocket watches.

Today IWC manufacture a wide range of different models including the very popular Big Pilot line and the Portuguese line. Their watches are universally admired as a flagship Swiss watch brand and are sought after by collectors and people who value quality and superb design. IWC watches have traditionally held their value very well in the secondary market and are constantly in demand.

ClassWatches admires the IWC Company greatly and always has several examples in stock. Our IWC watches are mostly brand new from the US Distributor, but we also acquire some superb (and rare) vintage and collector owned pieces from time to time. Please check our website at www.classwatches.com and our eBay store at eBay.com/usr/classwatches to see what we have in stock.

Tourbillons

Saturday, August 20, 2016 10:20:26 AM America/Los_Angeles

Tourbillons at www.ClassWatches.com

Tourbillons are the pinnacle of mechanical watch movements, first invented in 1795 by watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet, designed originally to counteract the effects of gravity and position in mechanical watch movements. A Tourbillon essentially mounts the watch balance wheel and escapement in a rotating cage which averages out errors caused by gravity, or moving a watch into different positions as the wearer moves around.

Today Tourbillons represent a dedication to craftsmanship and skill, and take many hours of work by talented watchmakers to build and assemble. They are found in the highest priced watches in a manufacturer's range and are rare and very collectible.

Class Watches carries many different Tourbillon movement watches and we present some of the latest additions to our inventory here:
